Does this dough-eyed shithead really think we’re this stupid. The only thing you’re interested in reshaping is your bank account.

“They’re scary motherfuckers to get involved with,” Mickelson told Shipnuck. “We know they killed [Washington Post reporter and U.S. resident Jamal] Khashoggi and have a horrible record on human rights. They execute people over there for being gay. Knowing all of this, why would I even consider it? Because this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to reshape how the PGA Tour operates.”

Is it possible for me to root for JT any more than I already do now? I'll try:

Justin Thomas calls Phil Mickelson's Saudi comments an 'egotistical statement'

As for Mr. Man-breasts, I got a Mansierre (see Mr. Costanza) for you. What a clown, if that was truly your motivation and desire, why would the Saudis want to work with you? You've just said you're all about leverage, not actually playing for them. You're great with the golf club in your hand, leading others with sincere thoughts? Not so much.

Between gambling, insider trading and likely PEDs Phil's as amoral as they come.

I'm sure being quoted as calling them motherfuckers will help him out as well.

I'm nearly always for the players against management in all cases. And there may be some truth to the way the Tour uses its top players that needs to change.

But good lord, Phil. Getting in bed with the Saudis to try to impose your will and fatten your wallet, fulling knowing what they do, is awful.

Always knew the "aw shucks everyman" persona was phony. But this is disgusting.

Can we get past the "man-boobs" shit already? That was already not funny in about 1998. Please, all of you, especially those 51-and-up, posting about Mickelson's physique, please post a picture of yourselves. The guy's fairly ripped these days. He doesn't have calves, he has steers. (All the stuff about his assholery? Carry on.)

Okay, I'll admit I should avoid the physique critique, for that I will apologize. (I'm not for posting video of squats on Instagram but I will represent IMHO I'm in pretty good shape for my late 50s (5'8", 148)).

We can still call him an insider trading fuck though, right? And he's never been bright about his opinions. Remember his quote about Tiger being jealous of him (in 2003. A good year before he won his first Masters) because he's flying the ball by him while Tiger plays with "inferior" Nike equipment. Yup, so jealous that Tiger still managed to tie him for Majors after the comment was made despite trashing his life, his health, his marriage and using "inferior" equipment.

But I never thought he was this stupid. This guy managed to shit on the PGA Tour and the Goddam Saudis in the same sentence. It's like having a girlfriend and a side piece and pissing both off. I don't have a lot of rules to live by, but I think one should be, "try to avoid calling actual murderous motherfuckers, 'murderous motherfuckers' in the press."

A list of prominent players our guy finished ahead of yesterday: Matsuyama, DJ, Schwartzel, Hoge, Varner, Na -- all dudes who have won on Tour. If Brennan was going to blow up, I figured it would be early in his round yesterday. But he shot a nice, steady even-par 71 and has a chance to make the cut. As a college sophomore against a field full of the world's top 10 players on one of the best courses in the world. Super pumped for him.

From Shipnuck's post on Fire Pit Collective:

But are his grievances fueled by money or principle? With Mickelson, you can never be sure. Given the massive scale of his gambling losses—detailed elsewhere in the book, which, as it happens, can be preordered here—the Saudi seduction might be born of necessity. Mickelson, whose $94 million in career PGA Tour earnings is second only to that of Tiger Woods, raised eyebrows when he sold his Gulfstream in 2019. “He loved that plane so much it was like his fourth child,” says someone very close to Mickelson. “I was absolutely shocked that he sold it. The only reason I could possibly imagine him doing that was him feeling serious financial pressure.” Phil and his wife, Amy, have purchased land on Jupiter Island, in Florida, and have been interviewing architects; Phil may yet get the haven from state income tax he has long lusted after. “I was interviewing him one time,” says writer John Feinstein, “and he said, apropos of nothing, ‘You always think of me as a right-winger, but I’m actually pretty liberal on social issues like abortion.’ I said, ‘But your number one issue is taxes.’ He said, ‘No, no, no, my number one, two, three, four, and five issues are taxes.’”

Forget this being about principle. Phil is obsessed with money, and he's trying to make up for whatever he's lost in the past. It's classic compulsive gambler stuff. He's already filthy rich by any regular person's standard, but he can only think about the money he doesn't have and thinks he is somehow entitled to. Anyone who thinks he's fighting for the future well-being of the PGA Tour is delusional.

Phil is the friend we all have who thinks he's the smartest man in the room because he makes a lot of money, wants you to believe he's the smartest man in the room because he makes a lot of money but is an actual idiot.
