When the local DI team wins, more people read, buy and click which keeps my paycheck coming. Go home team, go.

Remember, never argued your stance on Peter Karmanos ... and Tom Dundon is not on my holiday card list after the manner in which he treated Ron Francis and John Forslund. Could easily have been avoided, yet it's like Dundon was dying to hit the iceberg - repeatedly.

Wonder who is behind the social media in Raleigh? One of the media guys has been there a long time, one of the good guys around, period. I know he has the humor, but wonder if he's behind it ... though, whoever was behind the stuff with the kid the organization poached from Montreal was too much. Between that and the $20 signing bonus, it had the maturity of a kid who hasn't gotten past sucking his/her thumb.

I was up there for what you were talking about with B's-Isles. Seemed to be a bunch of inside jokes (not to mention a good friend of my then-roommate and still good friend, who seemed to be enjoying it).

And since when has anyone from the Pittsburgh media market had room to talk? Speaking of a media market and fans/homers (at least, as a general rule ... like almost everything else, there are exceptions.) ...

Yeah, one of the biggest shit-stirrers from Boston is a good buddy of mine and he was full-on self-aware WWE heel the entire series.

The crazy thing about the Penguins writer is he wasn't from the homer site.

I wonder how infected some of the Bruins media really is:

Canes writer kicked off Boston radio for southern accent

Remember the Boston sports talk radio guy who hung up on the News & Observer reporter because of the latter's Southern accent? How ... tolerant.

And about the Penguins ... isn't "Pittsburgh" a synonym for "homer?"

Nobody gives a goddamn whom I root for in the pros as a prep and NAIA college coverer.

I'm a Cowboy fan, as is 90% of my readership, and they'll be 90% Mavs, Rangers and Stars fans like they were in 2011 once they start to win again.

Life is too short. Do what makes you happy. Fred wasn't wearing that outfit in the press box at the Super Bowl so I'm not sure why it matters. Tom Hoffarth is a narc.

I was too. In fact, despite us running every scrap of copy on the Buckeyes, a guy called me one night to complain we didn't have enough on the Buckeyes. He asked me, "Aren't you an Ohio State fan?" I said. "No, not really." Then, he screamed on the other end of the line "WELL YOU BETTER BECOME ONE!!" and he hung up.

I will say as a Browns fan working in Ben Roethlisberger's hometown, I rarely missed a chance to run a picture on B1 of him either getting sacked, or with a stupid look on his face.

I've always believed that not being a fan helps you do the job better than the rest, and readers don't like people who do nothing but pander to them.

But if we're all being honest here, the content creators who lean into the fandom have been the most profitable for several years.

Like the thought. But I’m currently in a D-1 market where they clearly want the media in bed with them. One of the local sports directors wears the colors and logo to game assignments and thinks he has the right to hog subjects for interviews. Complete crap.

I agree with this with the caveat that Simmons & Dipshitstool have basically created a pyramid scheme in which everyone thinks they can be the next Simmons or Dipshitstool but in reality they're just feeding the content machine for pennies while Simmons and Dipshitstool continue to make millions. All the wannabes aren't making shit, but they think they can. Technically speaking, actual sports journalism pays better. Which, great, you can buy Ramen noodles in bulk at Costco instead of by the single pack at Dollar Tree.
