Once the vaccines became available and the oldsters (rightly) were moved to the front of the line, it seems like everything stopped (vis a vis treating them as the top priority for everything).

Everybody was just lumped in the "get vaccinated/get boosted" pile, because we started seeing stories about younger people getting infected/dying, and the "old people are most vulnerable!!" narrative seemed so . . . March 2020. But that truism never really went away.

To me, this notion that we should have made a more concerted effort to get older people boosted is head scratching. The pandemic has affected everyone, so it's not like there are people who are unaware there is a deadly virus that has probably killed more than a million of Americans, with older people being really vulnerable. It's not like there wasn't a herculean effort that brought a vaccine to people in an insanely short amount of time or that the vaccine didn't become readily available to anyone who wanted it at no cost. It's not like people didn't know the vaccine was available, and then that boosters were available. What exactly more should we have done? Anything you want to say about Florida, Ron DeSantis, etc., if there are old people in Florida choosing not to get a booster, wouldn't you assume that the politics and attitudes in Florida are a reflection of them (as evidenced by their choices), instead of them being a product of politicians or some lack of effort to get them to get on board?

I was a little surprised to see that only 10 percent of my city has been boosted, per those stats. The boost really is huge -- one of my bartenders had the two shots and got rocked by an Omicron infection, put her on her ass for 10 days. She said she's getting the boost as soon as she can, but you are supposed to wait for some time to get boosted if you've recently had a COVID infection.

I wouldn't feel nearly as comfortable with the idea of international travel without the boost.

Might just be a problem getting the boosters into nursing homes.

Florida ranks near bottom for booster shots in nursing homes. How is North Dakota getting it done?

Florida is way behind on getting booster shots to nursing home residents

The Florida state government, at the behest of its governor, is actively working to kill its own citizens by not promoting vaccinations, downplaying or denying their effectiveness, and ignoring or making illegal other health initiatives. If the people there put up with this shit, and refuse to get vaccinated or a booster, wear masks in public, etc., they fully deserve what happens to them. But if I'm running against DeSantis I hammer home "He's working to kill Floridians" at every opportunity, no matter how much he blusters otherwise.

It’s shit like this that reminds me why I couldn’t advance past pre-calculus and didn’t do more than a basic stats course. I mean an elder population that is 11% bigger with a booster difference of the same equals a 36% difference.

DeSantis won't fill Indian River Hospital District seat, leaving board shorthanded another 8½ months
