So Im blessed to report that the surgery, which ended up being 12 hours, went as well as could be expected, with the cancer all removed and the facial nerve entirely preserved. The surgery was Tuesday morning, and wbile Ive been in considerable pain in my thigh, I was up walking Wednesday night with a walker and now Im walking the floor freely though somewhat gingerly.

The flap grafted to my neck has great arterial blood flow. They put me on soft foods today and said I am on schedule to go home Sunday morning, with the drains in my neck and leg to remain in place at home till they are removed next Thursday.

I am so damn lucky. My family and friends have been amazing. Thank you for your well wishes. I feel so blessed. Thank god for science and doctors. Id been wearing a long sleeve Columbia T-shirt for good luck bc my Yale surgeon went to med school there. Today my wife bought me a new long sleeve Yale T-shirt.

Now we wait to find out what type of salivary gland cancer it was and the course of possible radiation. For now though, this is good news.
