Maybe it's a good thing that all 18-year Americans spend 2 years training in the Army like they do in Israel.

They have not had their freedom long enough to start to take it for granted. Much of the population is old enough to remember when they were under the Soviet's heel.

Fighting for your freedom is much more real to you when there is an invading army trying to take it from you, as well.

It's also a lot different when you're fighting on and for your home soil rather than somebody else's.
If somebody two blocks over has a home invasion, you can be scared and think and talk about what you would do in that situation. When they break into your house, you're not only ready to gouge their eyes out to protect what's yours, you don't have much of a choice.

Fuck it. Rich kids found ways out of the draft during Vietnam anyway.

I honestly don't know why cities everywhere are not called what the locals call them. Why do you need to "English" Москва (Moskva) into Moscow? Roma into Rome?

Then what the fuck were they doing in 2014?

During my Lake Havasu City stint about 15 years ago, we'd run ads for a housing development near Kingman called Pravda. I always imagined rejected applications stamped "Nyet!"
