    Likewise.

I know the car culture folks out west have already torn off their masks, but I think a lot of people here will continue to wear them for a long time to come.

No stigma here to speak of, and the reduction in head colds, sore throats and the flu has been pretty remarkable.

I'm also expecting another wave of covid later in the spring. I'll be happy to be wrong.

Governor Kathy Hochul announces statewide school mask mandate will be lifted Wednesday

New York State lifted its mask mandate for schools, effective March 2. Individual districts can still impose mask mandates, but some of the ones around here sent out notifications almost immediately announcing that students, staff, and visitors will have the option to wear or not wear a mask.

When the CDC put out its new guidelines, they listed most of New York as low or medium risk. The CDC is no longer recommending masks indoors, including schools, in those counties. Given all that, it was time for the state to drop the universal mask mandate for schools.

Are there any states left that had a mandate in place?

California has lifted mandates for all but schools and nursing homes. It looks like they are about to lift it but for now we still wear masks.

If it was your call tomorrow, would you stop wearing yours? I'm curious to see how teachers are going to handle the situation as the mandates come to an end.

if it were my call, we’d keep them. I’ve had positive cases in my room, they’ve interacted with other kids and I’ve knelt next to them and we’ve had no school caused outbreaks. I don’t know how many of my colleagues share my view but that’s my stance. I think there might be 3 or four out of 16 teachers at my school who’d get rid of them. I’m sure numbers at other sites in different counties will vary.

I think there are two layers to this. One is what teachers would want for their school. The other is the individual decision to keep wearing them or not once the mandate is over. Of course, there is also the possibility that the mandates could be reinstated at some point.

My girlfriend teaches eighth-graders and her mom is wrapping up chemo… she’s keeping hers on for now.

Mass. school mask mandate ends as of tomorrow, when kids and teachers return from February break.
