I’m telling you, Throwback Phil with the Hugo Boss and Yonex clubs.

No chance he'll ever get deals that lucrative. He just doesn't have that many more Sunday afternoons in contention on the regular tour which sponsors crave for the TV eyeballs, and that’s aside from this polarization that will never completely go away.

Wonder if we tread into John Daly territory where he is using Dunlop balls and Powerbilt clubs.

Did you not read that he "desperately needs some time away"?

Even if the PGA Tour didn't suspend Phil, I would have to think there was a strong suggestion that he not show up for TPC. If he did it would put all things Saudi at the top of the conversation again during the Tour's flagship event. The topic won't be avoidable completely given the field, but if Phil's there it would be 10x worse.

He’s been out for a month.
    He’ll be there.

From someone who used to be in the business . . .
I now don't understand the value of a super rich athlete submitting to interviews or engaging in social media. What is there to gain.
Ask at the beginning of the season what the fine is going to be for not doing interviews, pay it and move on.
When the Marshawn Lynch media thing was going on I originally thought he was an asshole but now I realize he was on to something and if I was him I'd consider doing the same.
Absolutely nothing to gain from doing interviews other than the potential for being cancelled.

I imagine sponsors wouldn't be too happy if their walking-billboard athletes like golfers refused to do interviews and stayed off social media. There must be stipulations in contracts for athletes to make honest efforts to be in the public eye as much as possible.

Can you imagine pro golfers touting their sponsors at every interview like NASCAR drivers?
"Jimmy, the Nike Salonpaus KPMG driver was really strong today"
