This package includes Russian Sukhoi fighters that the Ukrainian air force already flies. Paint them in Ukrainian livery and they are immediately useful. Their air defenses have held up far better than they were expected to.

I'm thinking somewhere deep in the Pentagon some brass are taking a deep look at the eye-opening results we're seeing in Ukraine. Why spend hundreds of millions on aircraft to combat armor when you can instead mass-produce anti-tank shoulder-fired weapons at a fraction of the cost and get the same results for far less risk?

They envision Russia as a white utopia ruled by a strongman where minorities are sent to forced labor camps.

Those Turkish drones that the Russians were bitching about are also taking a toll on their vehicles, both soft skinned and armored. Agree though, the shoulder fired anti-armor missiles are a big equalizer. They mean that small parties of infantry can take out multi-million dollar main battle tanks. The various MANPAD anti-air missiles are also doing some good work. I saw a clip of two planes being taken down by them earlier this morning.

I would argue that one individual with a shoulder-fired rocket is more dangerous to a tank than another tank. A tank sees a tank, there's a big target, and they start shooting at each other while trying to bug out themselves. A guy in the bushes with a shoulder-fired weapon can knock the track off a tank, immobilize it, and run away before the tank even knows what's happening.

    Good article here.

Russia seems to have been unable to maintain air superiority, and the "why" is an interesting question. In all the American wars since Vietnam, we've been able to gain and maintain unquestioned authority over the skies, and our ground-attack aircraft have been able to go to work unimpeded.

... but Ukraine's air force - which is pretty meh - is still better equipped than any of the air forces we've fought since Vietnam.

Getting the Swiss on board blows my mind. Himmler and Goering probably still have active accounts there accruing interest. But they came on board against Putin. That's a hell of an accomplishment.

How much longer will Putin's thugs/cops/soldiers accept pay in worthless rubles?
