I have to say, I'm a little surprised at the number of people willing to simply give Putin the largest country in Europe without putting up a fight.

    But only a little.

Unless a reactor is actually on fire, it's unlikely the concrete bunker around it would be on fire. But there are always outbuildings on site.

You should see some of the comments in threads from reporters around here, as gas touches $4.00. Blaming Biden, the Governor for some reason (oh, yeah he has a D next to his name), corruption, lazy state workers, everything except the actual war taking place.

I go through this with my dad all the time.
He'll spout Fox & Friends talking points. When I correct him, he won't believe me. I actually yelled at him the other day, telling him he's a mushroom that Fox keeps in the dark and feeds shit.
When I bring something up, he'll say, "I haven't heard anything about that." "I know you haven't because your daily propaganda briefing won't talk about it."

That particular power plant is closer to Moscow than it is to Budapest.

    I make a distinction, though.

Putin just shut down TV Rain and Echo of Moscow, the last two independent media outlets that were left there. You can't even call it a "war" in Russia now without being arrested.

That kind of repression doesn't exist in the U.S. Your dad has the choice to live in a Fox News echo chamber. Just as other people here can choose another echo chamber that reinforces what they want to hear and believe. Or they can try to find objective news sources. You have the choice here in a way people don't in Russia.

That said, I strongly suspect that a lot of Russians are like your dad, and there is something about human nature behind it. Even if they had the choice, I'd guess a decent number of Russians would restrict themselves to the same kind of stuff fed to them by Putin. They aren't idiots, news gets to them via WhatsApp, the Internet and relatives who are sprinkled all over the world. Yet, Putin remains more popular than most Americans can understand.
