Gene Taylor really filled the band out on piano. He not only could play -- he LOOKED like a boogie woogie piano player. I just read that he died of hypothermia during the Texas power outage.

Wow, I hadn't heard that, too bad. And you're right, much like Reese Wynans when he joined Stevie Ray Vaughan, Gene allowed the Blasters to expand their sound. (Victor Wainwright now assumes the boogie-woogie piano player play/look mantle.) I saw Gene sit in with a local blues artist who's name I can't recall when he lived in Toronto in the 1980s.

A quick way to date yourself: How many of these people do you recognize? Bonus points if you catch Ofra Haza's five seconds.

Wow. Recognized damn near all of them (but wouldn't have realized that was Ofra Haza without the clue).

Sebastian Bach's agent must have helped put that together because there's no good excuse for him being that prominent.

This song and video by Tierra Whack plays a lot at the gym. First time I've been exposed to her.

This song and video reminds me of Bjork. Like the song and the video is really cool, lots of fun.

Can't listen to one Pretenders song without going down that hole.

In the history of music, this song is Magic/Bird/Jordan/Kobe/LeBron.

Oh but it's hard to live by the rules
I never could and still never do
The rules and such never bothered you
You call the shots and they follow

Forgive me if I'm posting too much on this thread ... if you think so, feel free to say so via pm to save us both some embarrassment.

Ry Cooder awes me as an interpreter of american roots music. He's also a great storyteller, as this YouTube video illustrates.

We are not here for this slander.

ACKCHYUALLY in '91 Skid Row was huge. Slave to the Grind was released that year and it's one of the best examples of bridging hair metal and heavy metal. Probably the last great album of its ilk to slide in before we all heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

A complete headcase, but one hell of a frontman.

Hey, I've always said Sebastian Bach got screwed when the 1991 Nobel Peace Prize went to Aung San Suu Kyi.

His work to bridge hair metal and heavy metal was completely disregarded!
