IMO, an underrated nugget from that book is that the decision to fire Westhead had been made days BEFORE Magic's locker-room bombshell in Utah. Buss had asked Westhead and Sharman, "Do we do it now, or wait a while?" West responded, "Give me a week to scout out replacements." And a couple of days later comes Magic trade demand and the narrative that HE caused the firing.

Said Buss after the Magic outburst: "If we fire Westhead now, people will THINK it's because of Magic. But if we don't, it WILL be because of Magic."
