That had that percentage of people who would not cooperate. The tone had been set.

Uh, free vaccines were made available to anyone who wanted them. Some problems with the rollout, to be expected, but after several months they were pretty much available anywhere, conveniently so. Booster shots as well. By fall there was absolutely no reason for anyone not to be vaccinated.

The vaccines saved thousands of lives. They would have saved thousands more had everyone gotten them.

I think the difference between this spring and last is the level of vaccination. A lot of people didn't start getting their first doses until late April-early May. There is still going to be an uptick in cases due to the numbnuts who won't get the vax, but I don't believe it will be as severe as last year.

There’s also a ton of research out there that shows the most effective way to increase vaccine uptake is through one-on-one interactions with your provider. I.E., not a national mandate or edicts from the CDC.

In other words, the Biden administration, and the CDC in particular, had a ton of mixed and overly nuanced messaging, but in the end, it wouldn’t move the needle very much anyway.

The messaging on COVID has been mixed because the scientists - who deal with ever-changing dynamics - have basically been ceded full authority to communicate. Good scientists hedge - sometimes, the best answer a scientist can give us "we don't know" - and, when they're out there 12 times a week talking about ever-changing dynamics, mixed messaging is exactly what you'd expect.

We'd have been better off with a frequent updates from only elected officials who are tasked with balancing the expertise of scientists with the public's tolerance level.

And what percentage of vaccine decliners are too poor or too stubborn to have a provider, or if they do, think he or she is part of the Deep State?

It never ceases to amaze me how much Dr. Fauci, who has been around long enough to know better, would not hesitate to offer his opinion on literally anything he was asked, no matter how random or unlikely to occur.

Like, when he said double- and triple-masking would offer more protection less than a week before CDC lifted the masking recommendation the first time. What he was saying is technically true, but completely at odds with the prevailing efforts of the administration at the time.
