I was still mesmerized and deep in love with everything Boise State was doing ...

... so why couldn't undefeated Hawaii beat Georgia in the Sugar Bowl?

And LeBron would have been a better player had he gone to college. Devil 93

I didn't think Bill Belicheck would be anything special for the Patriots. At the time, I couldn't believe any team would give up draft picks for him.
Wasn't necessarily a prediction, but I thought the Chargers blew it when they picked Joey Bosa with the third overall pick in the draft.
And it wasn't me, but I was talking baseball with relatives at a family gathering, and my uncle, who's a bit of a blowhard, suddenly turns to me and said, "Wait, you're an Angels fan?!" (Duh, anyone who knows me a little bit should know that). When I answered in the affirmative, he said "Give it up, mpc. They'll always be losers!" This conversation happened in June 2002. Four months later, the "losers" won their first World Series.

I was stunned that the Patriots hired "re-tread" Bill Belichick. Thought he wouldn't last two years.

As has been pointed out on some threads, I'm still convinced several back-up QBs who were "top tier" in pre-draft write-ups and didn't get much of a chance or were mismanaged as a starter will find a coach/team that will make them All-Pro, if they only get a chance.

    Sonics would never leave Seattle.

I tweeted after Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season, after the Bucs lost to the Saints, including a Brady pick six: LOL Tampa, Brady is done and Blaine Gabbert is your backup. Good luck.

    Ugh.

I picked another kid for Area Football Player of the Year over Julius Peppers. (He had won the award as a freshman, and I thought he was a better basketball player.)

In 1993 covered a I-AA playoff game between BU and Northern Iowa. High-scoring affair BU won. My column did not once mention Northern Iowa QB -- Kurt Warner. All-time great scouting blunder.

“Eli Manning will never win a Super Bowl” to my Giants fan co-worker.

After he won his first, I maintained this stance. After he won his second, I maintained that stance.

I still maintain that stance. Reality will not sway me.

“The Ravens will rue the day they left Cleveland.”

Nothing but good things have happened to them since.

Pete Carroll sucks . . . and now he's going to have to recruit, too? What a mistake by USC.

I figured Leinart and Reggie Bush were can't miss pros.
