That guy was nuts. He's not likely going to get a better player than Turner with his fourth rounder, and he didn't drop him to keep someone else. The only way that works out for him is if Turner gets hurt for the season, but he still would have played it incorrectly.

Ultimately, I think I'll still have a shot at Bart and/or Verlander, even if I have to take them higher than their keeper position. There's a decent chance Alonso wouldn't make it back to me with the sixth pick of the second round, and I'd rather get his bat in the 6th round than use a second rounder on him. I don't think there will be anyone available in the sixth round that I'll say, "Damn, I wish I had this pick instead of Alonso."

Somehow, he had some great keeper options, but he managed to screw up his list. That's a 10-team league, too.

Your logic is sound. Of course, you are agreeing with me about keeping Alonso, so I'm more likely to support your logic.

So here are my keeper options in that other league. Our deadline is next week. The crazy guy turned his in early. We can keep up to five, but we are required to keep one pitcher. If not, I wouldn't keep any. I just took over this team and it stinks, but I do have three picks in the first round and two in the second. That's the only reason I'm considering keeping Goldschmidt. I'm not sure I will get a better player with the 19th overall pick given how many studs are being kept.

Here are my options. The options I'm locked into are in bold. Thoughts?

    Chris Bissett (10)

    Jesse Winker (11)

    Trey Mancini (20)

    Dylan Carlson (21)

    Andrew Vaughn (16)

    Willson Contreras (8)

    Paul Goldschmidt (2)

    Gleyber Torres (8)

    Ian Anderson (5)

Your logic for Goldschmidt aligns with the logic for keeping Alonso above, and with so many picks early, it makes sense.

I kinda like Contreras at 18, unless you are able to target a Perez or Realmuto.

Darn. That's a typo. Contreras would cost me an 8, not 18. If it was an 18, I'm pretty sure I'd be keeping him.

Goldschmidt also fits because I wouldn't be able to keep a player I take in the second round anyway. My only hesitation is I could keep Mancini in the 20th and he could rebound.

12 team, straight up 10 keepers. No draft impact.
My finalists, my current choices in bold:

Shohei Ohtani (Batter) LAA - Util
    Starling Marte NYM - OF
    Matt Olson Atl - 1B
    Alex Bregman Hou - 3B

    Will Smith LAD - C
    Ryan Mountcastle Bal - 1B,OF
    Max Scherzer NYM - SP
    Jacob deGrom NYM - SP
    Brandon Woodruff Mil - SP
    Lucas Giolito CWS - SP
    Robbie Ray Sea - SP

    Joe Musgrove SD - SP
    Alek Manoah Tor - SP
    Shane McClanahan TB - SP

That last slot between Musgrove, Manoah and McClanahan is giving me fits. I'm annoyed to be so pitching heavy, but that's my fault; I let this league go a bit after doing very well for a long time and let all of the young talent go elsewhere.

Musgrove is the best of those pitchers, but with the injury history, you could argue that he brings as much risk as the two younger guys. I'd still go with Musgrove, but if you pass on him, I agree with Manoah over McClanahan.

Given that you are so pitching heavy, would it be totally crazy to keep Smith instead? I agree that he has the least value of those four players, but not by much, and catcher can be very difficult to fill.

MLB now has the Shohei Ohtani rule. A pitcher who starts a game in the lineup as a hitter may stay in the game as the DH after he is removed as the pitcher. Of course, this should increase his value as a hitter in fantasy leagues.

Quoting my own post. Any more thoughts on this? I've got a better idea of the players who will be available at 19, so I think I'm going to pass on Goldschmidt. My question is if I should hang onto Mancini and hope he bounces back. Maybe 2019 was a fluke. Maybe he just ran out of gas last season after everything he went through in 2020.

Here are my options. The options I'm locked into are in bold. Thoughts?

I think I still like Contreras at 8. As you noted, catcher is tough to fill and his ADP puts him somewhere in the late 11th or early 12th in non-keeper leagues. With 50 guys off the board, he’s still a solid pick at 8.

My money league has run into a problem. We use a slow auction in February to fill out our starting lineup. We fill our 10 reserve slots in a slow draft in March. Both were done before the lockout ended. The problem is that Seiya Suzuki was not eligible for either. This means only the first person in the waiver order gets a shot at a potential impact player. This is a very deep league, so some owners are annoyed, especially because the defending champion is always first in the waiver order. I've been saying that is a bad idea for years.

The commissioner delayed waivers a few days to "discuss" the idea with our rules committee, then ended up just letting it go. It doesn't help that the defending champion has been such a dick about the auction that the committee had to change the rules to mitigate the impact of his shenanigans.

Would you stick with the regular rules or find a way to address it because the lockout caused the problem?

Got one more keeper-league draft Sunday. I just joined the league. The existing roster is crap. The previous owner traded away most of his talent and the entire middle of his draft, but he did leave me with three picks in the first round (2, 4, and 9) and two in the second (13 and 19 overall). This is a league in which players cost selections two rounds ahead of where they were taken last year, but it has been around a while, so many of the best players were initially picked up in later rounds. They are still being kept.

I'm trying to figure out who to take with the first two selections. I did keep Winker and Carlson at relatively cheap prices, so I would rather not take two outfielders in the first.

The top players available are Kyle Tucker, Bryce Harper, Mookie Betts, Gerrit Cole, Corbin Burnes, and Freddie Freeman. Betts has second-base eligibility in Yahoo leagues, but he's also coming off a down season due to a hip injury. I thought about going with the best bat available at No. 2, then whichever pitcher makes it to me at No. 4. I'm guessing both Cole and Burnes would be gone by No. 9, but I could probably get Scherzer or Bieber at 9 or perhaps somebody like Urias in the second round. How would you all rate those top guys?

Just drafted my last team for this year. This is the team I took over in an existing league. I had no picks in rounds 11 through 15, which really sucked. Five picks in the first two rounds was fun, though. About half of the top 50 players were kept, including most of the guys you would expect to go in the first round. I went heavy on rookies and risks late. I need to build up a keeper group for this team. This year's keepers are in bold. That may have been a bit high for Bassitt, but by rule, I had to keep at least one pitcher. Winker was probably a mistake, but I think I did okay. League projections have me in sixth place with a team that was atrocious last year, so here's hoping for some improvement.

    What do y'all think?

    C J.T. Realmuto (4)
    1B Trey Mancini (20)
    3B Rafael Devers (1)
