Netflix: Greed is Good

We have the top plan. We use multiple devices. We use it when we travel. Which includes my husband being away from home for extended periods of time. And I don't care what you say, I get a tax break from the government because my daughter is part of my household. I really think that if Netflix told me that she can't use my plan I would probably drop Netflix all together.

Whatever way allows them to charge the most money will be what they choose. Look how quickly their rates keep going up.

It's cute that you trust corporations this way. They are setting up a way to charge more for situations like hers and mine, where anybody using the service outside the home has to pay more. Remember, the primary residence of most college students is still the home of their parents even if they do spend more time on campus. You don't think that's a big chunk of their business?

That's what I have been getting at, too, but I'm not sure I would drop it simply because my wife and daughter wouldn't want to drop it. At this point, I would rather have Hulu. I would watch it more.

I found a three-year deal to get Disney+ really cheap before the service went live. (It was discussed on one of the threads here.) That deal is up next year, so we're going to be making some decisions then. My preferred option would be to drop Netflix and get the Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+ bundle, but I may be outvoted on that one. If I had to choose, I'm certainly taking Disney+ over Netflix, but that's the Marvel/Star Wars fan in me.

Of course. And they’d be derelict if they didn’t.

“Trust” them? Not sure what that means in this context. I expect them to try to make as much money as they can. That’s the goal of business.

As such, part of their calculus is going to have to be how to add revenue from moochers, without angering their subscriber base. That, of course, is why they’re testing it in three small countries, to A) see if it works, and B) see if they net out more revenue or if the lost subscribers cost too much to make it worthwhile.

In this case, I mean that your post suggests that you trust that Netflix is being honest in its motivation here. That is very naive.

I’m not sure we’ve disagreed on Netflix’s motivation. They want more people to pay for their service. Do you disagree with that?

We have Disney Plus. We have Netflix . We have prime which I don't count because we easily save the money on shipping. Peacock comes with our cable and I have Paramount plus because I got to have my Picard. We don't have Hulu and we don't have HBO Max. I will eventually need HBO again at some point. We might get rid of cable later this year, I don't know. I like the ease of watching sports on cable. We honestly wouldn't save that much money because if I drop cable I'm getting the Disney package with Hulu and ESPN and I'm getting HBO.
And I know that I am not the target of Netflix because we don't abuse our subscription. But we pay our daughter's bills and I am not carrying a second Netflix subscription.

who is blue cross blue shield to leave them on the same plan? Communists I guess.

Verizon does have household/family plans for wireless and they don’t seem to care if one of the numbers on the account is using the service in a different zip code.

Its like Netflix is brining back roaming charges

That sounds similar to our situation. We have Netflix, Disney+, and Prime. We have HBO Max, which I love. There just isn't enough that I would watch on Paramount+, though I did use the free trial to use the first season of Picard. I really do want to see it. I'm still hoping for another Q/Guinan confrontation, but we can only spend on so many of these services.

My wife doesn't want to cut the cord on cable and neither do I, at least not yet.

Psst … Verizon charges for each line on your plan.
