We’re going back to the days of the Slaughterhouse Cases soon enough, so I don’t see why you are bitching.

That's sedition. A U.S. attorney general with a spine would arrest him right now.

Whatever your feelings on Garland - he has been perhaps the quietest AGs I can think of. They usually tend to be lightning rods for criticism. I haven't heard anyone from the right utter his name once.

This is where you are wrong. We have the same court, and the same "create law" focus that doesn't even bother anymore to bullshit around the Constitution. What's changed are the social agendas of a majority of the judges.

It's really nothing like the time you are talking about.

Someone would have to wake him up first.

    Stronger, schmonger.

If he can't get elected, he can't appoint anyone. It was a campaign promise to appoint an eminently-qualified black woman, one he has fulfilled. Everyone who voted for him knew this would happen; everyone who voted against him did too. Guess the racists and women-haters will just have to quit being such snowflakes and deal with it. Elections have consequences.

If 99.87% of all people in American life make this statement in public, they are promptly hauled into jail at gunpoint

I don't want the Supreme Court to be a campaign promise prop. I also don't want politics to be about dividing people based on their race, gender, sexuality and using that divisiveness to turn our governance into a system of patronage where everyone is vying for some favor. If she's eminently qualified as you said, what I would have liked to have seen was her nominated on her merits. You want meaningful change? Stop making it ABOUT race. That's the goal isn't it? If you want to make it so that race doesn't matter, you have to actually do things that way.

I also hate your attitude. The consequences you are a talking about are a country dominated by people who treat elections like a Yankees-Red Sox rivalry and act like this is blood sport. It's the toxicity all around us now. ... you are a part of it. Like elections should be victors getting their spoils. Change the rhetoric and you sound exactly like a typical Trump supporter. And you don't even see it.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the president making a campaign promise about who he would appoint on the Supreme Court. There are probably people that cast their votes based on that. And I've said before and I'll say again and I will keep saying, representation matters. It is the year 2022 there should be a black woman on the Supreme Court and there should have been a female president by now. But still, after centuries, we still have to fight for every single step and it is exhausting.

Elections are about candidates taking positions on issues and about voters choosing the person who positions on the issues most align with theirs. Voters have the right to expect the guy/woman they voted for to do the things he/she promised they would do. And apparently about 85 million voters in this country had absolutely no problem with Biden's promise to FINALLY reserve a seat on the bench for a black woman ALMOST 246 YEARS after the signing of the Declaration of Independence.

You hate my attitude? Tough shit. It's about damn time the Supreme Court started looking like America instead of an Elks Club meeting and if Biden has to ruffle a bunch of crackers feelings to do so then good on him.

I guess Biden should have said he'd nominate another middle-age white dude or evangelical church lady and he could have prevented all this noise altogether.
