Fell on the ice and broke four ribs. That was five weeks ago today and they still hurt a lot. Anybody else have experience with this? How long do they take to heal?

I broke one rib many years ago and as I recall it was about six weeks before I didn’t want to cry anytime I sneezed.

Yeah, sneezing is the absolute worst although it's not nearly as painful as it was originally. This is just getting really frustrating. I've been sleeping on a recliner for about month. Weirdest thing is a couple days after I fell my doctor fell the exact same way, stepping off a deck and breaking FIVE ribs. Next time I saw him he loaded me up on pain killers, the good ones!

What time frame did the Dr give? I broke two ribs a few years ago and they said 4-5 weeks. After two weeks still could feel it
coughing or sneezing, but not every time I'd move the wrong way. After a month pretty much healed.

If I recall correctly, major pain goes away after about six weeks. Twinges would pop up for weeks afterward.
If you're still having MAJOR pain after six weeks, I'd ask for another X-ray and/or an X-ray from a different angle (assuming the breaks were visible on an X-ray originally).

I was rail skinny, but could always throw a good football. I forged my mom’s name on the authorization slip and got speared in the ribs the first HS practice. Refused to to go to the doctor for two excruciating days and then was useless for the next month.

He said 6-8 weeks but today is the start of week 6 and they're still hurting. Not as bad as originally but still uncomfortable. Of course, I broke four.

How old are you? If you're over 40, that's probably a factor.

Regardless, might have to give it another month.
Everyone heals differently, and maybe more so when it's four ribs.

Have you considered wrapping up like Hogan at WrestleMania 2?

All I did was crack my lower left rib the middle of last month and am just now able to roll over in bed without wincing. Best of luck!

Gonna try and sleep in bed tonight after sleeping in the recliner for a month. I'm 59 to answer a previous question so that could have something to do with it. Getting older sucks.

Tripped over my dog when he cut in front of me during a morning run two months ago. Just sprains, but rib area was the last to heal. Took about a month before I could take a full deep breath without a twinge of pain.
