Why do you think they call it a "punchline?"

 

Will Smith has had an incredibly well planned out and curated career. The entire past year, from his book to his various interviews, was meant to culminate in the coronation with a Best Actor Oscar for a feel good role (and honestly a very good performance in a mediocre movie). In no way was he going to ruin the moment with a stupid bit.

Chris Rock is a great comedian. He's not that great of an actor. That was genuine shock in his face and in his words after it all went down. I can see somebody thinking it was a work at the very moment it happened, but come on, that's just not realistic after seeing how it all played out.

I honestly still don't know if it was staged or not.
I do know everyone is still talking about the Oscars, which have been in a ratings tailspin for years.

 

Still trying to figure out why millions watch the equivalent of a bowling league banquet every year. It reminds me of Bill Burr’s bit about the NFL draft.

 

It does seem that 90 percent of the controversies Will Smith finds himself involved in are prompted by Jada. Weird relationship.

 

What’s in it for Rock to be a bitch?

 

I loved the response I got on Twitter when I mentioned she had a medical condition. Person responded that she wasn't disabled (didn't say she was) and that Rock didn't mention alopecia, just that she didn't have hair.
Person took umbrage when I called him/her a dumbass after I pointed out she'd shaved because of the alopecia.

 

I know Will Smith is an actor, and an Oscar winning one at that, but when he sat back down and yelled at Rock, he appeared to me to be trembling, as jacked up on adrenaline as you would expect. Put me in Camp Unscripted.
