Maybe I’m crazy for saying this, but why can’t awards shows be about the awards and not whatever crazy shit happens during them?

How else can we guilt weak people ? We need a rainbow of winners and nominees. That’s why we need award shows.

What makes awards show so watchable is the chance a celebrity will make a complete jackass out of him or herself without a writer or director around telling them what to say and how to say it. As last Sunday pointed out oh so clearly.

I mean, feel free to celebrate ?uestlove’s documentary on another thread. And I mean that.

But if you are, or were, involved in news in any way, I’m sure you can accept that ?uestlove’s award, or the award for best costume design may not be as interesting to your audience as the Fresh Prince slapping someone in the mouth over a benign and, frankly, dated joke.

Has Kanye West handed back any of his VMA Awards since he abused a 19-year-old Taylor Swift in 2009?

That wasn't physical, but abuse doesn't have to be physical.

The VMAs started the whole thing. I can’t name one award winner but I remember Andrew Dice Clay’s performance, Fartman, what the guy from Rage Against the Machine did, the performance of Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke, etc. Is the whole point with that shit is no matter what anyone says about them, they’re talking about them?
