I recall omeone writing in the MSM why we shouldn't believe anything coming out of Ukraine.

I think the Ukrainian information war has been an incredible success. And the Russian equivalent a dismal failure.

That said, there's just enough evidence to take the accusations of these new atrocities seriously.

But we won't know for sure until there's a third-party investigation by the Red Cross or the UN or the ICJ or equivalent.

What are you doubting? You don't think the people are dead? That they were killed by Russian weapons as part of a Russian invasion.

I think the Ukraine was a small, poor, dysfunctional place grasping imperfectly with some complex problems. But the Russians invaded. Not because of any threat that the Ukraine presented to Russia. Instead they invaded because they feel the loss of an empire and are trying to regain part of it.

THe ukrainians are winning the public relations war because the civilian dead and the devastated towns are on there side of the border and the world can see it.

I'm just saying I wait for third-party corroboration like this:

One of my journalism professors used to say if your mom tells you she loves you, get two sources to verify. It isn’t that you doubt it, but if you verify everything—even what seems obvious—you never get burned.

It isn’t that you don’t trust what Ukraine is saying. It isn’t that you are giving the benefit of the doubt to the Russians. You just simply compete in the fog of war when information is scattered and both sides have reason to manipulate the truth, you verify.

Maybe numbers are rounded up, maybe these are deaths from the first attacks not the retreat, maybe is exactly what it is. Verifying isn’ta bad thing.
