Tiger at Augusta today, apparently in an attempt to see if he can realistically compete next week.

Hey fellow players, I’m not about how I played but I’m here to encourage you to keep playing no matter what your age.

I’m nearly 60 and hitting the ball farther than I’ve ever hit it and crisper after a two year slump; rediscovered my old athletic swing (went way down the technique rabbit hole). Yesterday hit 14 greens in regulation (blue tees) for first time in a couple of years. Keep on teeing it up fellow hackers!!

Courses here in Mass. officially opened Friday. Won't be able to play until this Friday, alas. Damn real life! Also in a moment of weakness I agreed to participate in a charity tourney on Cape Cod next Sunday at Eastward Ho!. It's one of the four or five toughest courses in the state. Not very long, but very hilly and above all, windy, since it's right on the water on what is really a sandbar sticking 30 miles out into the Atlantic. No carts either. I only hope it's over 45.

Who's scheduling a charity golf tournament on Masters Sunday?

The course is maybe the snootiest country club in Massachusetts, which is setting the bar very damn high. They set the date, and the tournament just accepts it (I should add that once we're there, everyone is most gracious). Besides, the thing starts at 8 a.m. I was in the last group last year at 11:30, and I was home in plenty of time to see the back nine. Due to virus regs, it wasn't a scramble, but it will be this year, so it's not a conflict.

I did not realize they are moving the Dinah Shore from Palm Springs to Houston due to sponsorship reasons. Especially brutal timing this year coinciding with the Women's Final Four in Minneapolis. They are probably the two biggest draws of gay women sports fans on the sports calendar.

Parents of a friend of my wife's are members at Eastward Ho! - that is, they're house members. They joined as house members 15 years ago and have yet to get off the waiting list for golf. They're in their early 70s.

There are two excellent public courses within a five mile drive of Eastward Ho! where membership for residents of the two towns nearest to it is like $800 a year. Guess which I do.

I've played Chatham Seaside and Cape Cod National. Both are pretty good. I'm sure I'll get on Eastward someday.

Cranberry Valley and Captains in Harwich are both superior public courses. If you're not a member, Cranberry is kind of expensive. The town-owned facility is incentivized to sock it to the tourists. Hell, it's the Cape's whole economic model.

Also to move it away from the Augusta National Women's Amateur. But yeah, too bad they are leaving the Low Desert.
