I didn't love the episode but I appreciated that they were trying some things with some of the newer cast members.

They’re letting the weird out this year. I’m a fan.

The maid of honor sketch was pure gold.

Already laughed out loud a couple of times. Don’t know the host, but he’s a workhorse so far.

EDIT: By my count, he was in everything but the cold open and WU.

That was a VERY good and enjoyable episode from beginning to end. I knew very little of Jerrod before last night. I will have to go watch his special now.

James Austin Johnson's Trump continues to be fantastic. On the violent coup of Jan. 6: "Violent is perhaps good, you know, they used to do violent all the time"

I found his delivery, especially in the monologue, to be very comfortable. Really liked him.

This season has been incredibly strong. Sharpest overall writing in some time.

I wonder if the enormous cast with many longtime vets has ramped up the output/competition as to what makes the cut.

Count me among those who had no idea who Jerrod Carmichael was and thought he was great. Started watching his newest standup special.

He’s a guy who clearly goes all-in. Seems like any guy who will host multiple times and be a lot of fun.

I wonder if it's the opposite -- because of the works schedules / COVID issues that have limited everyone being there every week, it has allowed the show to breathe with people that otherwise wouldn't be getting as much screentime.

There are some vets we haven't seen for weeks, if not months at a time.

I wonder if Lorne makes it the new normal -- before you were chained to SNL and couldn't do much outside that bubble. But now if you want to go shoot a movie or tv series and we don't see you until after the holidays, it's the standard setup for future seasons.

Definitely could be. Whatever is going on, it’s the freshest the show has been in a long time. I love political humor, and it’s been a staple of SNL since Day 1, but it has been somewhat of a crutch the last 6 years. Really creative stuff going on with the show right now.
