So true. A cool looking ship without a mission. At some point we need to accept the Arleigh Burkes are unsexy but effective, and still better than what literally every other Navy fields.

We could leave nearly every other ship we've got in port and still beat any other navy in the world with just our destroyers.

FWIW, I see a Littoral float by my house every so often, in and out of Hueneme. It looks ridiculous.

Weren't those littorals plagued with issues when they launched?

I'm old school. I hate the way Zumwalt looks. It doesn't even look like a combat ship.
If I had my way, we'd still have two battleships in service, if if it really is just for show.

No need to use past tense. They still are plagued. The tri-marine variant has been a nightmare, especially with engine issues. And they slowly piece by piece have cut the proposed LCS capabilities, so there's not many jobs left they're suited for.

Killing the Independence Class and focusing on Freedom should be an improvement.

Their engine systems aren't good. Yeah, they can do 50 knots or something there about, but you can watch the fuel gauge drop like '76 Trans Am.

I know you know this, but reliance on guns for surface engagement will never be a thing ever again, as long as I can get a fix for a missile engagement.

Wait until they have the VLS drone ships carrying literally a boatload of missiles which can be fired by any local destroyer via link and CEC.

Oh, I 100% know that. That's why I said even if it's just show. What's more impressive, pulling a battleship up in some port or a floating corncob? Cannons are not much use, but USS Constitution is still commissioned. Getting to crawl all over her was a thrill for me.

If he can move enough troops fast enough he may be able to encircle the Ukrainian forces in the east. Putin will grab as much as he can there, and then either kill or remove most of the current population, replacing with Russians he moves in.
