I do get tired of reporters simply dashing off a phrase like "party-line vote" or "partisanship" just because Ds and Rs are almost uniformly on opposite sides of an issue - why not examine the issue and ask what the rationality is behind such stark differences. Of course we're into primary season, the time of greatest electoral vulnerability for most Rs. But it is telling that as the non-affiliated portion of the electorate grows, the fringes of the parties (those who will vote in a party primary) only grow that much more powerful.

But still, I'm glad Schatz didn't pepper his comments with "my friend from Missouri..."
