I would agree. After all of the fallout in the deaths of my sister and her family, we found out the local coroner was elected, and we didn't know why. But it is what it is is. But myself and my brothers had conversations through sheriff's department liaisons and the coroner himself that his, um, bedside manner and the things he said, especially with my parents present, was out of line.

Ended up being an OK guy with us, and his deputy was tremendous. Though the sheriff's department was 10,000 better.

Coroners, even today in Colorado, top out at $113,000 a year when they work in large counties so you are not going to find a pathologist to take the job. Smaller counties do not have a morgue, contracting that out. In these smaller counties the coroner is still a part time job, because there really is not much he is qualified to do. It pays from 57k to 9k depending on county size. In the county I worked in, which at that time had a census population of about 25,000. the part time coroner was a stocker, not even an assistant manager of a local grocery store.

When the county needed an autopsy they sent the body to the Denver area. The coroner's duties were to serve as a witness. The guy obviously ahd no idea what the hell he was watching. The guy also signed a lot of papers. I asked how one became a coroner.

I asked how one became the elected county coroner. I was told that it was hard to find anyone who wanted the job. The money was not that good and who wants to watch a lot of autopsies? This county, as are most counties in Colorado, are dominated by one political party. So the leaders would find some party loyalist who had the time to run. The parties blessing was enough to guarantee election because who the hell knows who they are voting for when they vote for coroner, so they vote party line. That is how you can get some real losers as county coroner in Colorado.

Sheriffs make more money and work full-time. If the party leaders tried to push a totally unqualified person through as sheriff there would be some experienced lawmen who would take a shot at the job and you would not have a complete loser.

Well, I presume the members of your family haven't made up bullshit stories about being "left for dead" at the crash site, or claimed they would have attended Annapolis except for the accidents (more bullshit of course).

I might expect that from the Bonham Daily Favorite, but not from the NYT.

You see, I'd ALMOST give him credit for making a joke. Except he's made clear that he doesn't joke, which means this is just more ... crap. Which fits, given that his dirty politics make it impossible for him to get near the word "clean."

I hear you, sir, but you know as well as the rest of us that the moment Stefanik ever says a word about anything like that, SPC, his lackeys and the rest of his cult will go after her.
