I wish I cared about Kershaw and his (im)perfect game, but baseball gave up on me long before I gave up on baseball.

    Just unimaginable.

True perfection has to be imperfect
I know that that sounds foolish but it's true

They'd bury the manager on the field.

We all know what Gibson would say. The same thing he said to McCarver.

"Get the fuck off my fucking mound."

It's interesting because if you take Richardson's version as the pure truth—that he simply tried to find out what Shildt needed and that's why he engaged him and Shildt reacted in that way—it doesn't look good. Why do you feel the need to tell a manager to control someone who is just calmly asking you something? And the fact Richardson was the one ejected is crazy.

What I am curious about is if Richardson said anything before that encounter that set Shildt off and caused him to react that way. Not that shouting control that MF'er should be done, but it at least would explain why the guy went from 0 to pissed after one question.

In reading the article linked, it sounds like they buried the hatchet (probably at the behest of both managers/front offices), which is good. I'm also curious what comes of this. Does MLB drop it as a one-off? Are every team asked to watch the don't be racist video? Are umpires being asked to pay little more attention to two coaches exchanging words?

20 yrs from now in 2042:

"I pitched 7 perfect innings" (big smile)

"Why'd you come out, you only threw 80 pitches right?"

"But we won and I saved my arm for the next game"

"BFD, YOU HAD A CHANCE AT A PERFECT GAME!!!"

Taking Richardson's version, the ejection really looks bad when its Shildt who used the "bad word" and was the instigator.

Let's not pretend the manager had anything to do with this decision. This was orders from headquarters. "We pay that guy too much to let him try heroics." I expect the decision would've been the same it if had been 1-0 and not 7-0.

When you see the Padres did the same thing twice last week, I'd tend to agree. They are just disgustingly married to the pitch count.

This is the point where I say to hell with analytics.

Not exactly. Those were mere no-hitters.

Nick Wright on Dan Patrick yesterday nailed today’s baseball perfectly when he said the pursuit of winning is undermining the sport’s watchibility.
