There are no solutions, there are only tradeoffs (said some high school dropout ...).

If only we had listened to Tom Swift, we'd be flying pole-to-pole in a fuel-cell powered transhemispheric superblimp.

Battery storage was an issue with solar for a long time, it no longer is. The fact that there are not solar cells on the roof of every building in America is a crime. Other countries are experimenting with stuff. There are bike paths in the Netherlands that have solar cells built into them. The sun is an endless supply of energy and the fact that we are not harnessing it is one of mankind's greatest failings, particularly for a country like ours that pretends to be the best that everything.

Solar. Wind. Geothermal. Tidal surge. There are many options to tap into, some better than others, but most of them don't have billions of dollars, Senators in their pockets, and an army of lawyers and PR people on retainer, so we don't do much.

I'm 65. I'll be dead before this gets *really* bad, but I already observe all sorts of easily noticed changes happening around us. Thank god I don't have grandchildren to curse me after I'm gone.

You are great with these oblique comments. Would it ever bother you to explain them?

You could begin with the simple stuff like the comments you are referring to. We can build on that primary step.

How about this ... what's a reasonable Kwh per year estimate for a square foot of solar panel in this hemisphere? So if you covered entirely with solar panels the roof of a 200K sq. foot facility, just how many Kwh per year do you think would be generated?

Now am I saying that solar power is not an approach worth pursuing? Absolutely not. But those evil oil dudes ain't why Walmart locations aren't completely solar powered. Arithmetic is.
