It is worth noting that so far, Putin has avoided direct conflict with NATO just as much as NATO has avoided direct conflict with Russian forces.

Although we seem to have convinced ourselves of this on the basis of . . .what, exactly?

Nuclear weapons are bad for your health. There’s science involved.

Understood. But I remain unconvinced Putin would actually make a strategic nuclear strike.

So I guess I'm asking on what basis do we think he'd do so?

We've been living in a nuclear world for a very long time, but suddenly can't rouse ourselves to oppose another nuclear power in a conventional conflict.

    What happened?

After everything he’s done to Ukraine and Syria’s civilians, you don’t think he’d drop a nuke on his way out?

It's amazing how different our day to day world is compared with other societies around the world.

Like every bully, he preys on the weak.

A tactical nuke? Maybe. But why bother?

I'm not sure any of which translates directly to a willingness to nuke a superpower.

Because it would be the last resort of a desperate dictator. A bully isn’t above cheap shots especially if they are losing.

I’d imagine once his forces were getting the bums rush back to Russia, he’d drop one to “stop those dangerous Western invaders from destroying beautiful Russia”

    All bullies are cowards.

I think the idea that Putin would call down nuclear holocaust on himself if he detonated any kind of nuke anywhere probably keeps him from doing so.

    Probably.

But I also seriously question the West's resolve in the matter.

CNN's good coverage has appeared on. ... CNN.

The problem with their CNN+ launch appears to be with people not wanting to pay extra for the additional content it offers. Even if they took the war coverage off the air and put it on a dedicated subscription service, there is a lot of question about whether people would be willing to pay for it. It particularly appears to have been a huge miscalculation on their part, given the problems Netflix is having, which is in the news today. And Netflix is entertainment, not news, which presumably people will pay for before news.
