I don't get the "pwning" of Disney by the Florida legislature. The "special district" does exempt disney from local property taxes because they were responsible for their own services and certifications - so yes, you end the tax break - but end up putting those costs and responsibilities onto the surrounding local governments. 58 million visitors a year - and sure I'm guessing there is a lot of expertise in inspecting rides and other amusement parks in the local area given the number of knock-off parks in the region that don't have the special district - but while Disney sought the exemption in '68 to at least have cost certainty and not be subject to "the whims" of local and state government as the project got off the ground, I think the state of Florida will end up having to raise taxes to cover the legislation.

From what I've read, specifically Orange and Osceola counties will be on the hook for a couple thousand per household. This isn't about Disney, per se, this is a warning shot from the governor of Florida to corporations that do work in Florida. He is telling them loud and clear to shut the fuck up. DeSantis is a tyrant. He believes in all the freedoms that he wants you to have. He has been silencing the media since he became governor, and he has the legislature at his beck and call. The other big decision they made in this special session was to legislate two Black seats out of the house of representatives. Jim Crow is on the rise.

It's questionable whether this latest shit will stand a legal test. Could be the start of civil war.

Disney employs more lawyers than guys and gals in cartoon character suits. But the most effective move they could make is for the CEO to have a series of well-publicized meetings with blue state governors. Oh, yeah, and the premiers of the Bahamas and Bermuda, too. Don't have to make any commitments, don't have to say anything. Let them do the talking. Just make sure all the photos are all smiles.

    It's fake.
They want everyone talking about Disney while the governor steals the real franchise.
