    Orange County already adds a 6% resort tax on top of the 6% state sales tax, so they could gouge visitors even more and probably few people wearing mouse ears would notice. Most other counties that rely on tourism have "tourist development" taxes as well. For example, Manatee County gets 12% from me for my winter stay (6% state, 1% county, 5% tourist).

    HOWEVER, the tourist tax can't be dumped into the general tax revenue stream, for now.

    "Manatee County’s 5% resort tax, or tourist tax, is collected from owners of accommodations rented for six months or less who charge the tax to their renters, in most cases, tourists. About 50% of the tax proceeds are allocated to Bradenton Area Convention and Visitors Bureau tourism marketing efforts, with 20% allocated to beach renourishment. The tax also funds tourism-related attractions such as the Bishop Museum and the Bradenton Beach and Anna Maria piers."

    MTG is not only fucking dumb and/or purposely obtuse (it's been equal mixtures of both) but sadder is she thinks her constituents are. It's actually painful to watch to what depths she will sink to avoid answering a simple question.
