This has video of the hit and reaction, including an enthusiastic hug from former teammate Jose Iglesias, now with the Rockies.

What's the Miggy-Trout beef here about, that one's better than the other?

MVP measuring and who has the better case for the Hall because Trout missed out on an MVP and therefor Miggy sucks. I don’t know. It makes my head hurt.

When presented with the chance to have sex, or have sex, I'm going to choose having sex.

One poster thinks it was some horrible injustice that Trout didn't win AL MVP in 2012, the year Cabrera won the Triple Crown. He seems to think it is a matter of people not understanding advanced metrics well enough. That, or he just loves Trout. I went from tweaking him to pointing out the gaping holes in his argument out of boredom. I'm recovering from hernia repair surgery, so I've got way too much free time with very little to do right now.

Oddly enough, I've been screwing up part of the argument the entire time. In fact, justgladtobehere and I both had part of this wrong. He has been comparing the value of Trout as a center fielder to that of Cabrera as a first baseman and I didn't catch the mistake until now. The Tigers moved Cabrera back to third base for the 2012 season. He started 154 games at the position that season and only seven as a DH. He didn't play first base at all. Third base was also his primary position when he won the MVP again in 2013. I remember at the time that the move back to third seemed to actually help him offensively. He has had many great years, but those two seasons were the signature ones in his Hall of Fame career.

It is somewhat timely with Cabrera reaching 3,000 hits today. I really enjoy watching both guys play, but today I'm finding myself focused on appreciating Cabrera. I remember when he was an excellent, but not historic, player with the Marlins. Then I remember how his career seemed to find another gear in Detroit. He is a fantastic hitter who was always a joy to watch, a joy he seemed to share with the fans.
