The Reds have not only lost 17 of 18, but 16 of those 17 were losers on the run line too (by 2 runs or more). The D-Backs went on a run like that last year and it was a helluva windfall for those who got in early and rode it out.

Tommy Herr was my favorite player for a while in those days. The Cards were on TV all the time in that three-year run (which ended when they inexplicably traded Herr for Tom Brunansky) and they were so much fun to watch. Herr was someone to model myself after as a player, a little smaller, switch-hitter, a little bit of an over-achiever, and a second baseman. Dude had a pretty solid career. As an old guy who remembers how it was, i liked your idea. However, in the realm of unintended consequences, it would likely result in a revolving door of relief pitchers (and/or starters) going back and forth between the majors and minors.

The flaw in that plan is that you still have to bet on baseball, which on a day-to-day basis is about as easy to consistently land as a 747 with one wing and an engine on fire.

Is the wing on fire, or is there just one wing? That would make a difference in this analogy!

I’d be very interested to see if she ever gets an XBH.

That's something that used to happen all the time, and still happens today on teams with low-grade staffs.

He'll never go without with a swing like that.
