Eminem, Dolly, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie, Pat Benetar, Eurythmics, Carly Simon get in as performers. Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis and Judas Priest get the Musical Excellence Award, whatever the hell that is.

Eminem, Dolly Parton, Duran Duran, Lionel Richie Lead Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2022 Class

I probably won't argue with Eminem, Duran Duran, Dolly, Lionel Richie and Carly Simon. I do not think Pat Benetar and the Eurythmics belong. I would love to hear the arguments made for their inclusion by whomever stood up for them.

To me, Carly Simon doesn't belong with any of the other inductees, not even close. This year's Jann Wenner Special. I think Pat Benatar has a stronger case.

I loved the Eurythmics. Annie Lennox had that iconic look of the 80s. They had two flat out great songs.

They are not a Hall of Fame band.

Yep, don't get the Eurthymics getting in.

And I'm shocked Beck didn't make it.

They are both well respected, but it’s like putting Til Tuesday in.

Especially since it was just a little hobby of hers.

I would have fought for Benatar -- like Moddy, I'm a fan -- and then I Wiki'd her discography and it's far less impressive than I thought. She was such an MTV staple and basically the only female hard rock singer over the course of 10 years that she was everywhere on the radio in that era, so I thought she accomplished a lot more than she did. Still love her tunes, though.

There's no denying that she was a rare solo female rock singer for her time -- and she has a bunch of songs that are undeniable rock staples -- but how much of her renown was because she was one of the few women to have videos that got heavy MTV play in the early years of that network? And her Imperial Era, so to speak, was simply not all that long or impactful: Her first album came out in 1979 and her last album to crack the U.S. top 10 came out just three years later. Her last Billboard Hot 100 top 10 was in 1985, and that song (the pretty forgettable "Invincible," which got a push from being the theme song to a wide-release Hollywood movie) barely cracked it. After that, it was diminishing returns.

She also doesn't have any No. 1 hits, and she didn't write any of her four songs that cracked the top 10: "Hit Me With Your Best Shot," "Love Is a Battlefield," "We Belong" and "Invincible." This is not to say that chart success or songwriting prowess are prerequisites for HOF induction, because there are HOF acts that had either one or the other or neither. But Benetar's resume just seems really thin.

I think that helps her. She saw the trend and hopped aboard the MTV train.

Her hits are iconic and enhanced even more because of the stories we watched with her videos.

Love is a Battlefield is one of the great musically cinematic experiences in my lifetime.

Also, she made great music for a good long stretch.
