2022 Rock & Roll HOF induction nominee screechfest

This is just a genuinely terrible induction class. I'll leave the issue of whether Eminem belongs to someone more well-versed in hip hop than I am; I suspect that's probably a legit call.

    The rest is really bad.

If they ever reach the point that Weird Al is nominated they need to burn the whole fucking thing right to the ground. In lieu of a ceremony just soak the building in gasoline and light the whole thing up.

Could be, except that DL was inducted two years ago.

DL only had three top-10 albums, though one was an all-timer.

    Singles were 12, 16, 28, 19, 2, 10, 3, 1, 12, 15, 36, 12, 34, 12, 39.

    So, 1 No. 1; 3 top 5s; 4 top 10s; 11 top 20s.

Def Lep matches up decently against Benatar, but not well against the two unnamed bands, neither of which will ever get in, so long as Jan Wenner breathes air.

(for all these bands, I only included singles that cracked the top 40.)

    Band A = Styx?
    Band B = Foreigner?

It's not going to get better. How many "true" rock and roll performers are out there who aren't yet eligible? And can someone explain the arguments against Foreigner, Styx and REO Speedwagon? Particularly in comparison to some recent nominees?

Exhibit B, m'lord, with the classic original lineup:

Exactly, there's no way Carly Simon, to name one, is more deserving of a nomination, much less induction, than any of these bands who sold a ton of albums and concert tickets and whose songs are still in rotation on classic rock radio and who are probably still on the state fair/casino circuit.

This is correct. Both their bodies of work are very impressive compared to much of what's in the HOF. And while Foreigner has become the Menudo of classic rock, often performing without a single original or classic lineup member, its eight-year heyday was very strong. Styx still performs with two of its classic members, sometimes three (and could be four if they weren't all such assholes). They had a nearly identical run to Foreigners in terms of a peak.

People don't like them because ... so many people liked them.

The argument against is that there is artistic merit involved, and like it or not, and as long as that is the case they're not getting in.

If Billboard opens a hall for people who moved a lot of product, they're in.

Adam Sandler sells a lot of movie tickets. He doesn't win Oscars.

Styx sucks, but my fever dream of a reunited Styx performing Mr Roboto at the RRHoF jam lives on

I guess in baseball parlance, they are compilers.

Always gotta go there, doncha? The list of indutees without a ton of "artistic merit" is long. From Ritchie Valens (nice little movie, but he essentially wrote three fucking songs) to the Go-Gos to the Crickets (a back-up band, for crissakes).

Heart is in. Heart is Foreigner and Styx, only with female leads and far inferior musical chops. Cheap Trick is Foreigner and Styx, except they had to open for Foreigner and Styx (and REO Speedwagon) because they weren't nearly as big. Or good. ELO and Journey are in. They are Foreigner and Styx. Only with less chart success. Same for the Cars. Those bands were all from the same era, playing the same songs, all in the same rotation. Somehow Barracuda, Surrender and Let's Go are better than Feels Like The First Time, Roll With the Changes or Come Sail Away?

I'm not here to argue musical tastes with PC. He thinks mine sucks, I think his sucks. Way more people are on my side.
