A cousin of mine who was an extra in the bar scene where Goose is playing the piano attended the premiere in San Diego. Is this the longest span of time between original and a sequel or is it that "other" movie that Cruise was also in?

I was thinking maybe Hustler and Color of Money, but that was only 25 years.

That was the "other" movie I referenced. Yes. Top Gun wins! Disappointed Iceman is the only other "original" in the cast. It would have been interesting to have a scene or two with him reconnecting with some of the other pilots to show what they've been up to. Probably making more money, flying for U-nited Airlines, Having Merlin be a liberal version of Duke Cunningham would have been a hoot.

Is it longer than Coming to America?

By about a year or two. Thanks to the pandemic and delay hitting theaters. Top Gun was '86. Coming to America '88.

I assume this only counts the span between part one and part two, and not franchise films like James Bond and Halloween?

I just looked it up. The Bambi sequel came out 64 years after the original.

I didn’t even know there WAS a Bambi II.

Yeah, I mean it’s hard to beat 60 years if you did.

Loved this. Though Ronnie Hawkins' clips were the best of the whole thing.
