Would You Have Bought the Same House if You Had A Telecommute Option??

Oh, I know. It sucked for everybody. Just venting and reminding people there are a bunch of people who never had the option of avoiding this plague.

Going to work for ten hours and then watching a two year old for eight hours just sucked. My brain and body are simply broken.

 

I certainly understand. When the pandemic hit, wifey and I were fortunate that one son was away in college and our other son was home but also in college. Utmost respect to parents like you who had to deal with younger kids, it might have broken us.

 

I'm telecommuting now with a side hustle less than a mile away. So the answer for me is yes.

 

And 24 hours later I look at my post after some sleep and realize a single parent would be rolling their eyes at my whining….

 

Just give me a shack anywhere in Colorado air space with excellent Wi-Fi and I’d be happy. And profitable.

 

Forgive yourself. It's not wrong to say something is hard just because other situations are harder.

We bought in November 2020. Started dating in 2019 and moved in together in girlfriend’s one-bedroom in early 2020. Her teaching from the “dining room” and me working from the couch was unsustainable. By the time we closed she was back to teaching in school, but we really needed the extra space.

She works further out in the burbs and I work in the city when I do go in. We compromised and bought something decent about halfway between each and about a 10-minute walk from the furthest-out bus line to the subway. I’ll usually get a ride to the subway in the AM — I’ll go in once or twice a week — but having the public transit option, even if it’s not a great one, nearby was my sole request.

 

would have done a lot of things differently. I do miss going in - the laughter and the shit-talking are terribly missed - and nothing else.

If you ever think the work-from-home deal is old, take a nap in your own bed an hour before your shift and that perspective will change.

 

We're allowed two remote days per week, even on weeks where we're in the field. Thankfully those don't count as "remote" days, as I have no choice but to spend two days covering an event. So the only day I have to go in this week is tomorrow, as I covered an event Monday-Tuesday and took my remote days yesterday and today.
