    The Supreme Court largely stayed out of things not address by the Constitution (exceptions were things like Dred Scott, which destroyed the court's credibility), and mostly stuck to adjuticating Federal laws that touched on economic liberty, which was more clearly spelled out by the Constitution. That changed sometime last century, culminating with the Warren court, and then the Burger court, putting us that path of them making up law to ascribe made-up rights to the Constitution based on whatever social objectives the justices had. And that opened a barn door wide open.

    The problem isn't that the Constitution is too vague. It's that as a citizenry we allowed the branches of government to go on power grabs that have eroded the separation of powers, and in the case of the Supreme Court it puts us where we are today.

    And damn the consequences. This woman is a poster child for the problems with this discussion. Once someone else is involved -- and yes, that fetus, that you and your partner created, by being irresponsible, and living only "the life you want" -- is someone else, and so, not only your rights should be considered.

    I can't even say if I'm totally pro- or anti-abortion. I'm one of those who would probably never do it myself, but I also wouldn't necessarily want to have that decision unilaterally made for someone else. But I'm not at all impressed with this woman's "pro-choice" take on the issue. She makes me ill. And I would be inclined to make her carry the baby to term if I could, even if just because of her attitude.

    Maybe people who can't afford kids, can't afford contraception, or don't have access to contraception -- who doesn't have access to contraception these days? -- ought to be exercising some maturity and self-control and/or being more careful, timing-wise, then.

    And, how do you know that woman did think about it, or tremble when she went to her appointment? Because she sure as hell doesn't sound like she did. She is not the person who should be trying to be a face of either side of this discussion.
