Michael Kay: “This place will be up for grabs if Judge hits a long ball.”

    Three pitches later. BOOM!

Michael Kay is a precious clown. Always has been.

One thing I really like about seeing early Yankee Stadium photos was how the Bronx was basically “the country” back then. There are pictures as it’s being built and you see this big stadium surrounded by little houses and vacant lots.

Also, in that photo, the empty space underneath the Polo Grounds with the outline of a small baseball diamond was called Manhattan Field. It was the area where the Giants played in the 19rh century while the Players League team played at the Polo Grounds site in 1890. When the Players League folded, the Giants moved to where the Polo Grounds stands.

Here’s an SABR article on Manhattan Field. Interesting history.

Yeah, I’m not crazy about him; but I thought it was kinda cool that he mentioned a walk-off homer before it happened.

If you head up a few blocks from the Polo Grounds site, Columbia Presbyterian Hospital was built on the site of Hilltop Park, home of Yankees predecessor Highlanders. There's a marker in a small garden denoting home plate. A young Walter Johnson beat the Highlanders there in three complete games in four days, including a no-hitter and allowing something like five hits in the three games. Ty Cobb went into the stands after a heckler there, too.

Nothing happening in Anaheim through 8. Although TB's Bret Phillips did reach on what was ruled an error. Didn't see it so I don't know how legit that was.

Phillips now pitching for Tampa. Bottom of 8. Trout second homer of the game off the rocks.

And Rendon just homered -- batting lefty.

Shohei follows with a double off the wall, just missed a homer. Rendon comes up batting left-handed ... and homers.

Using Phillips is a disgrace. Are there no unwritten rules to address this?
