Dude was out before he landed. Just a ragdoll posture once he hit the ice. Scary.

I love Crosby and I hate the NHL and how archaic they are. This isn’t the hill to die on.

Exactly. The Penguins led the series, 3-1, and had a 2-0 lead in game five when Trouba's cheap shot took Crosby out. The Rangers scored three quick goals as the Penguins shuffled their lines right after the injury. Then, even with a massive edge in goal, the Rangers still needed an ugly one with under two minutes remaining to win Game 6. I wonder if Crosby would have made a difference tonight. No, of course, I really don't.

I know Rangers fans are trying to sell this as some amazing comeback. It's not. At best, they were lucky Crosby was injured. In reality, their team needed a cheap shot on Crosby to win. They will carry that advantage into Game 7 because there is no way Crosby will be back that quickly.

Don't get me wrong. Domingue was bad tonight. He gave up two incredibly soft goals, including the game-winner. Unless Jarry is putting his long-term health at risk by playing, they probably have to put him in net Sunday.

Should I have put an IMHO on there?

I understand that a pile jumper like you needs others to tell him what to think. I don't. I saw Trouba take a run at Guentzel in the opening seconds of Game 5, making it clear what his intent was for the game. I saw him extend his elbow to hit Crosby in the head. I saw two games the Penguins very likely win without his dirty hit, knocking Crosby from the first and making him miss the second of them entirely. On this board, I see a Rangers fan, a fan of a team with one of the more infamously dirty players in the NHL and you disagree with me. Oh, and some guy who is woodwork. Sorry. I guess I forgot the forgettable guy. None of you make anything close to a compelling argument.

The whole "Trouba took a run at" thing is sad at this point. Yeah, he took a run at Crosby. Checking is a part of hockey. That is a part of Trouba's game. He was clearly not trying to injure him.

Trouba got a penalty early in that game. Not every penalty was an intent to injure someone, and that penalty had nothing to do with Crosby getting hurt later in the game on a really awkward, scrambly kind of play. Any more than any Pittsburgh penalty against the Rangers has anything to do with it, FWIW.

Malkin crosschecked Rooney in the face. It doesn't mean that Malkin has been out there all series trying to injure people. Same thing with some of the shit Zucker has done and Blueger and a half dozen players on Pittsburgh. LOTS of things happen in games, disconnected from each other, and those guys are mostly just out there taking it shift by shift and battling each other.

It's playoff hockey, both teams have been physical, and it's been a tough series. That hit by Trouba wasn't sketchy -- objectively. He didn't take a running start, didn't leave his feet, he was on the puck, he was trying to lead with his shoulder until Crosby started to fall forward. He was trying to level a guy in a playoff game with a clean body check, and the guy was off balance with his head down, and what happened was unfortunate. It's a fast game, which is why those kinds of unfortunate things happen. The reason it matters is that it was Sidney Crosby, not because the hit itself was dirty. If that was Danton Heinen, you are not creating narratives about Trouba's intent. Well, maybe you are, because, well. ...

Saying shit over and over again, and trying to punctuate it with strong language -- he's "one of the more infamously dirty players in the NHL!" -- doesn't create a reality. Trouba plays a physical game. He plays on the edge, always has. He's a big, strong guy and he hits hard. But he's not a dirty player, even if him having had to the temerity to try to body check Sidney Crosby now creates a narrative in Pittsburgh. I am certain that if you surveyed other players around the league, they'd say he hits like a sledge hammer, he plays on the edge, but they wouldn't put him anywhere near the Nazim Kadri or Brendan Lemeiux or Tom Wilson category of player.

I guess my Panthers in six pick was right after all.

Florida is just the better team. Sometimes it's that simple. Even had Washington gotten through this, they're too flawed to have advanced much further. Will be interesting to see some of the offseason moves. Obviously finding an adult in goal is the first call to action. But there are other big questions, especially on the back end and in regards to guys like Eller. And the step backwards Backstrom took this year was staggering. No idea if it was just because of the hip issue, but he looks like he's lost about three steps from where he was.

My 2 cents. Trouba definitely threw an elbow. There is a penalty for elbowing and it isn't limited to head shots.
Crosby was skating with his head down. Even though players should keep their heads up, there is no penalty for not having your head up.

The play early in the game demonstrates the way Trouba was playing. So does the previous history. Your claim that Trouba's hit on Crosby was innocent simply doesn't hold up, not when you look at it and see him extend his elbow to make contact with Crosby's head. The only thing that is sad about it is that the NHL encourages this crap by refusing to police it properly. This has been the case for decades.

That you claim to be looking at the Trouba thing objectively is comical. Your whining about Guentzel earlier in the thread demonstrates that quite clearly.

The bit about "one of the more infamously dirty players in the NHL" wasn't a reference to Trouba. I was talking about a Capitals fan weighing in to defend dirty play.

There is a difference between his elbow maybe having come in contact with Crosby and throwing an elbow. It was an awkward, odd angle play. Trouba has several inches on Crosby and Crosby was trying to slither through with his head down and his body leaning or falling forward. I've watched Trouba all season. He has laid a bunch of really hard, open ice hits, and he always goes in shoulder first and doesn't leave his feet. What I saw on that play was Trouba trying to lay into Crobsy with his shoulder, but Crosby caught his stick awkwardly and that was what was what brought Trouba's arm up. It was an awkward collision.

The flip side of this is the way Crosby plays. He doesn't shy away from the dirty areas of the ice and the way he contorts his body in traffic is what makes him really hard to stop or hit. That is what was going on here, he was in an awkward position just as Trouba was trying to line him up and it ended up badly.

Please, just stop. He extended the arm to make sure the elbow made contact with Crosby's head. It doesn't matter that he didn't leave his feet. With the two players crossing paths, all he had to do to get a decent hit on Crosby's head was extend the elbow.

The only thing more comical than you claiming to be seeing this objectively is your attempts to blame Crosby for Trouba's dirty hit.

The Penguins at least keep trying to pass of the illusion that Crosby might return for Game 7. He skated with the team this morning. Jarry actually got most of the work in goal, so I wonder if they make the desperation move and put him in. The clock struck midnight a while ago on Domingue, but I doubt that a rusty Jarry playing on an injured foot is going to be any better.
