I didn't mind the wait -- I figured they'd show all the Game 7 pomp and circumstance -- but to give only two replays, neither of which showed how the puck went into the net from that angle was atrocious. All those cameras and there wasn't one that had it?

Good news for the Rangers? The resiliency to come back from being down. They did it a lot during the regular season, so it is part of their make up. One encouraging thing was Mika and Panarin waking up just in time. Panarin had a brutally bad series. He wasn't noticeable for long stretches, and when he was noticeable, it was because he was trying ill-advised passes that led to odd man rushes. That was bumming me out as much as anything for a lot of the series. The kids / lottery line with Kaako / Chytil / Lafreniere really grew up during that series. For long stretches they were the only ones who seemed to have figured out playoff hockey and were able to get pucks deep and battle.

Bad news? They were flat-out outplayed, and they needed every bit of Shesterkin last night. It's not a formula for winning a Stanley Cup. If they play that poorly against Carolina, they are not going to be close enough to pull off come backs. I don't think the Rangers win the series anyhow, but I hope they at least show up.

Mike Sullivan took a page from how Carolina has (successfully) played the Rangers recently. And Carolina plays that style even better, and has better players. It's just a bad match up for the Rangers.

My round 1 predictions were OK, only wrong guess I had was LA beating Edmonton. My predictions for round 2:

    Tampa in 6.
    Carolina in 6
    Colorado in 5
    Calgary in 6

Keep trying, Montag. It must be so embarrassing for you to look so bad in an argument with a casual hockey fan like me.

I'm still not interested in paying rent on the space I occupy in your head, so quit asking.

The two of you should block each other. It’d make the board a better place.

Rangers goon it up on Crosby to get themselves back into the series.
Game one goes to the Pens after an odd call.
Last night the Pens get the high stick goal (after a crazy move with the skate), but they get sort of screwed when the Pens player gets his helmet ripped off. Still trying to figure out how that's not a penalty.

    It's all a wash.

So long as the Pens have Crosby, they will be a playoff team. Every time he settles the puck, the Pens have a scoring chance after his pass. The guy is freaking amazing.

Good riddance to Malkin. Never saw the value for what he is paid. Letang? They might miss him. Just surround Crosby with decent players and have a decent guy in the net, and they will be fine.

I was thinking their back and forth would be a lot better if they talked like hockey players during it.

Like if they mixed in the odd “give your balls a tug you pussy” or “I’ll be here all night you fucking plug.”

I have no idea what Montag, Forrest or woodwork mean.

The loss of Crosby in Game 5 and all of Game 6 means a lot more than the rest of it, so I don't agree that it is all a wash. There were some bad calls and missed calls both ways, but nothing had the impact of taking Crosby out for a game and a half.

Injuries really were the story of the series, and it was certainly more then just Crosby. Jarry was absent for six games and clearly not 100 percent last night. They really missed Doumolin. He's not as good as he was a couple of years ago, but he is still the sort of steady presence they sorely lacked on the blue line most of the series.

I doubt JC gets what Montag means, either. Maybe he will look it up now.

I'm surprised anybody doesn't get the Forrest reference.

Woodwork is an old SJ.com thing.

Well I assume Forrest is a nod to Forrest Gump, but I don’t get why you’re calling him that. Or maybe it’s him calling you that. Either way.

I’ve been on this board since 2003 (I think) and can’t remember seeing “woodwork” as a chirp.

I love them showing the handshake line. But there was plenty of time before that to show the replay at least once, the handshake line didn't start for five minutes or so. Can you imagine a Super Bowl ending on a out-of-nowhere TD and then not seeing a replay for about 10 minutes?

I think I remember a Boots thread about tenoning a mortise.
