Is there any conceivable way having a net worth of $40 billion is materially different than having a net worth of $80 billion?
Especially if you’re net worth was in the $1 billion range just a couple of years ago?
People are acting like Musk is going to have to start eating at McDonald’s or something.

Doesn’t it depend how much of that worth is leveraged? I’m not saying he’s ever going to be anything less than generationally wealthy, but there is a world where Tesla buckles and he loses most of it.

What do you mean by how much of his worth is leveraged? Leveraged to what?

Tesla is a real company, with a real product and real sales. He still owns about 15 percent of the company. That doesn't mention his ownership of SpaceX and the 9.2 percent of Twitter he owns. The only way he loses most of his worth, is if the value of the things he owns, which are the source of his wealth, lose most of their value.

I'd argue he owns things at some very inflated valuations, and he may take a huge hit if the the valuations on those things come down to reality reentering the world. But I suspect he'll be OK.*

    * Subject to change if he goes on a cocaine and hookers binge.

IMO Musk's effort to buy Twitter was his equivalent of a hookers and cocaine binge. Even MORE expensive self-indulgence.

If by leveraged you mean in debt, the net worth figure would have accounted for that.

Guys like Musk may "lose it all", but they're never going to miss a meal.

TESLA stock price reflects 190 times earnings. Facebook is over priced and it’s at 16 times earnings.
