Ah, I don’t know. You’re making it sound like being down 3-2, and being in OT in Game 6, was part of the plan. I don’t think it was.

Vasilevskiy made three or four point blank stops in that OT. If one of those goes in, you’re not talking about how Tampa has it all figured out. You’re talking about how it was a great run but those two long playoffs finally caught up with them.

Time for the reminder about the Ken Holland special
At the 2012 trade deadline Holland was looking for a defenseman
He wanted Kyle Quincey, who the Wings had let go on waivers a few years earlier
    Quincey played for Colorado
The Wings were still in the West at the time and the Avs wouldn’t deal with them
So Steve Yzerman did Holland a “favor”
He traded Steve Downie to the Avs for Quincey, they dealt Quincey to the Wings for Christian Piche and the No.1 pick that became Vasilevskiy

    Fair retort.

The Atlanta Flames were not terrible. Consistent failure in the playoffs, sure, but not terrible. The Flames were not sold due to lack of interest, either. Tom Cousins needed some fast cash. In addition, get Dan Bouchard on the line and he'll tell you how Eagleson f***ed Atlanta. Bouchard was fortunate Cliff Fletcher allowed him to arrange his own to trade to Quebec for Jamie Hislop the first season in Calgary. That worked out extremely well for Dan. End of rant.

St. Louis TV play-by-play man John Kelly was in Denver working as a reporter for Bally Sports Midwest. On the late late post-game show, he claimed it was the Blues' best checking game of the season. Kelly would know. In addition, he asked the studio guys, "How many odd-man rushes did Colorado have? One? Two, maybe?" The host (who cannot describe a St. Louis loss any way other than "fall" or "fell") said the Avs had none. I specifically remember a Colorado 4-on-2 and that's it. Kelly knows his shit. It's hereditary.

Boom Boom Geoffrion was such a character, especially on TV. Southerners don't understand Yankees, let alone Quebecois. And here you've got Bernie talking about "Da Flame" every night. Hilarious and made him an instant fan favorite.

Boom Boom’s Miller Lite commercial is great, and its punchline is still one of my fathers most oft-used quotes.

EDIT: it turns out he did a couple. I’m talking about this one.

Beloved, absolutely beloved. Boom left for his ill-fated attempt to coach the Canadiens prior to the Flames last season in Atlanta (1979-80). Didn't take long for his ulcers to flare up, and it was back to Peachtree. The telecasts were not the same. Jiggs was Jiggs, of course, but when a very young and very frightened third-string goalie named Pat Riggin is one of your analysts, it's ... well ... different. Craig arrived after the Olympics and caused brief hysteria but it, obviously, didn't last. Atlanta did not deserve to lose the Flames (nor the Thrashers, for that matter). Most of the popularly-held narrative on why it happened is coated in bullshit.

Man, I miss listening to his father do games.

I still expect the Avs to win the series, because I think they are that much better than the Blues. But Berube pushed all the right buttons and made all the right moves last night. Have only watched the Avs about 6-8 times this season, but never saw them as overmatched and clueless as they looked last night.

Will be interesting to see how Bednar adjusts for Game 3.

Boom’s commercials for Colonial Lincoln-Mercury were legendary.

    “ ‘Ey, rook-EE!”

Or as Da Boom would say, “Jigg was Jigg.”

What’s weird is he would leave the S off team names — Islander, Ranger, etc. — but he always called Flames defenseman Pat Ribble “Ribbles.”

I bet those matchups against the Jacksonville Lizard Kings were something else.
