Always wondered if Mooney's return this year was a late decision, since all of the other cast intros during the open were outside and he was shown wandering the halls of 30 Rock. That said, smart to add to the cast ahead of when a lot of the cast have their contracts "up." They used to start some seasons with an almost entirely new cast. I'll probably miss Aidy the most - particularly her work with Bowen Yang. And they've tried (too) hard to find a reason to give McKinnon prominent parts in sketches this year, but there is no national figure still relevant that she does.

As big as the cast is/was, they probably don't need to add anyone unless they find someone super amazingly funny they have to have on the show. Go with the current group minus the leavers and see what happens

Chloe Fineman or Heidi Gartner can do Kate McKinnon
Punkie Johnson can do Aidy's bits
Dismukes can take over Davidson's bits.

Isn't Che said to be leaving as well? No obvious candidates to replace him. The others are too valuable as character players and more useful to bring on as "commentators" for Update.

hell they had Aidy Bryant's replacement in last season's cast with Lauren Holt and they canned her after a year

If all the reported people leave, you have 16 left, including counting Jost for weekend update. That should be plenty

Are we counting Villasenor? Everything I've seen indicates she wants out.

If Che leaves, the replacement MUST BE Sarah Sherman.

I'm convinced she was only on the cast because Aidy missed the first chunk of the season filming whatever TV show, and someone had to be the token "bigger" female cast member.

Pete Davidson was brutal in any live sketch and peaked at the desk during his debut. Maybe he will be a movie star, but he would have been cut if he wasn’t famous for his personal life.

Che said he was during a standup routine a couple of months ago. But on the CBS Sunday Morning profile of him this past week, he said he didn’t know. Something along the lines of “when I’m doing SNL I want to be doing standup, when I’m doing standup I want to be doing SNL.”

Surprised they went with the alien abduction as the cold open, but that was a fucking amazing sendoff for Kate. You could tell she was struggling to keep it together at the end.

My favorite sendoff is still Kristen Wiig's "graduation" with Mick Jagger.
