Osaka says she may skip Wimbledon over ranking points row

She has ZERO points to defend there. So a deep run there could easily vault her back into the top 32 (top 15, actually), which means being seeded, which means not running into dangerous Amanda Anisimovas in the first rounds of tournaments. So yeah, it's important to fans of these players.

On the other hand are the players who DO have tons of points to defend and will see them wiped off their ranking at the end of the tournament.
Fairest thing to do is to let the players keep the points they earned there in 2021 until they can defend them. Don't let anybody be punished.

She’s just as bad on grass as she is on clay, has injury history on grass and remember the surface issues at Wimbledon last year. Plus she’s coming off an Achilles injury in the clay season. She also skipped it last year during her hiatus, and maybe she liked that break before hard courts. There are plenty of reasons for Osaka to skip Wimbledon even without the ranking points issue, which is still significant. The points thing is a convenient excuse IF she was already thinking about skipping it.

Plenty of reasons to skip Wimbledon? There’s one reason, sickness/illness/injury. If you’re a pro, you play barring injury.

    Tell that to Andre Agassi.

Well, my boy Alcaraz lost to Zverev in the quarters. Which means the winner of the Rafa-Djoker match (Rafa is up a break in the first set) is going to win the tournament.

Sigh. I was really hoping for some new blood.

Dammit, my exact thoughts. I really wanted to see Alcaraz in the final. Zverev, based on past performances, is going to fold like a cheap tent in the final, all talent, no head (I'm probably being too rough on him, I want him to win SOME MAJOR.)

And Nadal is taking Djoker to the wood-shed in the 1st.

This match is ridiculous, the level of play is so high. Watched during lunch break, 30 mins, they finished TWO GAMES!!

Maybe Casper Ruud or Holger Rune can make it happen.

    The women's bracket, BTW, became a train wreck early. The 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 seeds all lost in the first or second round. The seeds left in the round of 16 were 1, 11, 17, 18, 20, 22, 23, 27, 28, 29, 31 and five unseeded.

Swiatek is going to breeze to the title.
