Not gonna lie, I kind of hope this happens, if nothing else to see the Russian fleet experience a couple of more surprise submarine conversions...

This. There's a treaty that allows Turkey to control who gets into and out of the Black Sea, and that's what they've done. Nobody — including the Russian fleet — is getting their warships in or out. The West is already walking a fine line in this whole thing as it is. If Turkey were to allow other navies to come in and shoot up the Russian fleet it'd be a clear declaration of war from NATO no matter how noble the humanitarian mission, and that war would be right on Turkey's doorstep. They have little incentive to violate that treaty.

I had noted that a bunch of Harpoon anti-ship missiles were included in that last big shipment. I wanna say that Sweden sent them, uncertain.

If they don't uncork that grain, there are a lot of folks in Africa that are going to starve. The local governments can't afford to buy wheat at the current market price. I've also seen pictures that were supposed to be Russian ships loading Ukrainian wheat at a port in Crimea.

The question is how bad will it have to get before there is enough heat on NATO/The U.N. to force them to put more than diplomatic pressure on Russia.

NATO is not going to risk another World War just because some Africans are starving. The world has responded with indifference to lots of famines before.

It's not a question of "some". Ukraine is one of the world's biggest exporters of wheat, corn, and sunflower oil. Add that this isn't a drought in Ethiopia, it's Putin choosing to deny that food to the rest of the world as a tool of extortion. Even countries that don't buy Ukrainian grain are facing sharply higher grain prices. He has already tried offering to drop the blockade in exchange for removing sanctions against Russia.

I'm not sure Americans are grasping how this is hitting everywhere. Bulgaria is an exporter of wheat and sunflower oil. The government has passed an edict that none will be exported this year because Bulgaria needs to guard itself against famine, because of the war.

Anericans couldn’t be bothered to wear a mask to avoid a deadly disease. Imagine their reaction if the government has to implement a current version of World War II-era rationing.

I am sure they are not. But the rich countries will get the food and the poorer countries will starve. I cite as an example the distribution of COVID vaccines.
