Given they faced backup or No. 3 goalies for 13 of 14 games it would have been a shock if the Rangers didn't make the ECF.

Raanta played well. Not as well as Shesterkin, but few number one, two or three goalies would have.

It wasn't like Louis Domingue in that series. Boston faced Raanta in the first series, and they didn't advance.

My heart says Rangers in 6. My head says Tampa in 5. Rangers actually beat Tampa all three times during the regular season, even though I know that doesn't mean anything at this time of the year. Before the playoffs, I would have told you there was no way the Rangers can beat Carolina in a 7 game series. I would have felt better about a Tampa matchup. That should worry me.

In the other series, I have had Colorado as my Stanley Cup champs since before the season, so I am not going to change now. I'll go Avs in 6.

BTW, I was watching the handshake line to see what would happen with Tony DeAngelo and Georgiev (and K'Andre Miller, too). I wasn't expecting anything crazy, but I just wanted to see the awkwardness of it. They showed DeAngelo making his way down the line, had the camera just on him, he was one player away from Georgiev. ... and ESPN pulled the camera away. Clueless.

The backstory for anyone who doesn't know, the incident that finally got the Rangers to cut DeAngelo was an OT game, DeAngelo was on the ice when Georgiev gave up a goal, and on the way off the ice, DeAngelo supposedly yelled at him, "Make a fucking save" and a fight ensued.

The Miller incident supposedly was DeAngelo stealing the puck from Miller's first NHL goal. It was a particularly bad look because he was already having problems with the team because he is a jerk. ... and he had a history of saying racist things.

In any case, ESPN has no sense of what half the people still tuning in wanted to see and they just blew it.

I was pulling for the Rangers as soon as I saw the shot of two people in Whalers sweaters. Um, no. You stole your team from Hartford. THEY were the Whalers. YOU are not.
