The Boston Red Sox don't play regular-season games in Florida. Yet Fort Myers saw fit to renovate their spring training facility because the Red Sox generate millions and millions of dollars in tourism spending every year.

Obviously the Rays don't generate as much spending, and their fans don't come from out of state. But I expect they still are pretty helpful to the Port Charlotte economy.

 

The new facility would be in New Port Richey, about an hour north of St.Pete and three hours north of Port Charlotte
As for Gov. FuckFace, let’s see what he does if the Rays ever reach agreement on a stadium site in Tampa or St Pete

Pretty much every study on ballpark and stadium spending shows that it's not a great ROI. Yeah, it's better than lighting the money on fire or dumping it into cryptocurrency, but you'd be better served subsiding something unsexy, like a healthcare services park. (It's also ignoring that pretty much ALL of these owners, or the leagues themselves, are now rich enough to build whatever the fuck they want, wherever the fuck they want, without taxpayer money, but that's a separate thing.)
