New hires at the PGA Tour have a two-day orientation and darn near the entire first day is drumming PGA Tour vs. PGA of America into heads. But they'll never fix the 98 percent of the rest of the world that can't keep 'em straight.

It was SOP at the Herald to just use "the Tour" as the second reference to the PGA Tour in our articles. Saved the same space and had no problems with accuracy. Also, for a brief horrible time I helped digitize the PGA of America's monthly in-house magazine, and I would never mistake that estimable body of small businessmen for the Tour, a 21st century pro sports league.

Earlier in my career we had a local guy who had a brief stint on the PGA Tour and won a few times. I tried to reach out for an interview and started by calling the PGA of America, not realizing they were two very separate entities.
The level of annoyance and disdain from the PR person who fielded my call and not-so-gently set me straight could have filled a large ballroom.

Apparently, pace of play is important for LIV Golf. Shotgun starts, for example. Maybe the Saudis will cut off a finger for every instance of slow play. Bet that would speed things up.

Funny, Roy McIlroy will walk nearly 150 yards and back to look at every inch of his impending approach shots and nobody seems to mind. Is it just Na's overall pace of play?
(Spieth drives me bonkers OTOH; he talks through every shot like it's his approach on 18 at Augusta and he's tied for the lead. And unless it does exactly what he was expecting he goes all sad sack.)

Show some integrity or rehabilitate the reputation of a murderous, repressive regime? Na.

The WGC has (or had before covid) an event in China. The Euro, excuse me, DP World, Tour has multiple tourneys and its goddamn championship tourney in the Gulf States, which are Saudi Arabia but smaller. The history of the corporate sponsors of the PGA Tour is not all sunshine and roses. Saudi Arabia has bought the US government. Why should they think golf would be tough?
