You’re assuming an editor of any sort is reading it. Lots of times copy is dumped onto a web producer’s lap and they’re told “hey, deal with it.” I was a copy editor who had slotted a little before jumping to the web desk, so I had some experience — a lot of web producers are 24-year-olds with no experience, though. And no, managers don’t always make themselves available.

I think the Post is better than most with 24/7 staffing on its “multiplatform desk,” but still.

 

I’m assuming precisely what you’re talking about. That approach won’t work for her. It’s a weird beat - not a bad one, in fact a good one, but a difficult one - and the social media world is ruthless. I’ve read her work for awhile and honestly it used to be better. At this point, she’s so big and “online” - so many life details on accounts - that the actual work seems a byproduct of distraction.

If you read this whole thread, she blames everyone but herself.

Very bad form.

But also a chain of bad practice. She's reckless and careless and inattentive and wants to be everywhere on every platform all at once. As Alma suggests, what she really needs is focus, and scrupulously careful editorial oversight from start to finish.

She throws a lot of sparks, but not much light or heat.

Still, if you can make Glenn Greenwald superduper angry, you're probably doing something right.

Again, at this point, it’s on The Post. Talented person, needs better leadership, less distraction, etc.

Is it possible that she is everything you say she is, but also that an editor did put that sentence in? We've all had editors put mistakes in the stories. If you say you haven't, you're lying.
