But the Hero is still a 72-hole, stroke-play event.

Phil, DJ, Sergio and Reed have lifetime exemptions as Masters winners. So does Schwartzel for that matter. Phil's status as 2021 PGA champ has him exempt in all the majors for some years. DJ's in the US Open until 2026, Bryson until 2030. These guys are not going to vanish from the majors until there's either peace in the golf world or LIV vanishes. Also, the Euro Tour has NOT decided what to do about the LIV players, and most of the field were from that tour.

In the meantime, Rory and JT are tied with two holes to play in Canada. Justin Rose shot 60. Finau played well. And it was a 72-hole tournament with no gimmicks.

Yeah, this has been a good tournament, although with no wind in the early going the course was pretty much at everyone's mercy on the front nine.

Looks like Rory has it wrapped up. Two-shot lead on 18 tee, nukes his drive.

This scene on 18 is nuts. Major championship vibe.

If they play in neckties again, I'm here for it.

I think the European Tour and LIV Golf may be one and the same when this is all done.

I'm thinking of running the Boston marathon next year but I'm not gonna run a single mile in the months prior.

The line in Sally’s article about Jack knocking down all of cacti so the “mid-level executives could play annual corporate outings at places named Cochise and Geronimo” was well struck.

Not only that, but he wasn’t really a tournament player. Obviously being a scratch is impressive, but he wasn’t out there playing local and state ams.

In my experience, even at that level players who don’t test their game regularly don’t hold up well. For years at my club the guy who had the lowest index flamed out in the club championship. He was a good player, but never played in any events outside his weekly games.

For me, playing those sort of events - calligraphy golf as I’ve heard it called - made me a sturdier player. Not more skilled, but much likely to be blowing black smoke up and down the fairways.

Calligraphy golf, love that. Alas, it's a dying art.
